We Are…

Hope Bay Bible Camp is a small camp with a big heart.  HBBC is a Christian, non-denominational ministry owned and operated by One Hope Canada (formerly CSSM Ministries), whose purpose is to share the saving life of Christ with those who have the least opportunity to hear.  We are a member of the Fellowship of Christian Camps.

We Serve…

Our purpose is to share the love of Jesus Christ with children from the Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island, and the Vancouver area. Since 1962, we have welcomed and will continue to welcome campers, families, and groups of all backgrounds, even and especially those with different beliefs. We strive that every guest at Hope Bay Bible Camp be treated equally and served joyfully. In accordance with our Christian beliefs, teachings and structure, we are committed to providing an environment free from discrimination and harassment on Protected Grounds, as set forth in B.C. Human Rights legislation. A portion of our campers come from low-income homes from the inner city of Vancouver and Victoria, from foster homes, and from single-parent homes. God loves us all equally, and we strive to pour love and care into each person who becomes connected.

We Began…

The story of Hope Bay Bible Camp began in 1962, when the Menzies family of Pender Island offered to donate their farm land for the express purpose of a children's Bible camp.

CSSM Ministries began developing the property, building a simple dining hall, a chapel, and cabins, and HBBC has been sharing the love and wonder of Christ with thousands of children over the last 50+ years.

To our Friends on Pender...

Since 1962, Hope Bay Bible Camp has been blessed to be part of the Pender community. As a good neighbor, I feel compelled to provide some clarification about our ministry and culture.

Since our inception, Hope Bay has welcomed and will continue to welcome campers, families, and guests of all backgrounds, even and especially those with different beliefs. We strive that every person at Hope Bay be treated equally and served joyfully.

In accordance with our Christian beliefs, teachings and structure, we are committed to providing an environment free from discrimination and harassment on Protected Grounds, as set forth in B.C. Human Rights legislation.

Like all nonprofit religious charities, Canadian law requires that One Hope Canada, our parent organization, define our beliefs and govern our organization accordingly. We ask that all employees and volunteers involved with teaching or leading children share and adhere to those beliefs. We would never ask a volunteer or staff member to put themselves in a position of teaching beliefs they themselves did not share. For those persons who desire to serve but do not profess nor agree to live by those beliefs, we offer other opportunities at the camp that would not require them to violate their own consciences.

Hope Bay has worked hard to create a culture that reflects the belief that every person has value and, as such, every person is loved by the God who created them and is calling each of us into relationship with Himself. This foundation of love undergirds our actions and operations at every level.

Finally, as another point of clarification, there is a group of diverse people who meet weekly on our property to worship, pray, and discuss the Bible. The group is open to people with different views on faith, God, and Church, meeting under the banner of Jesus Christ. While we love and support the members of this weekly group, any opinions, public comments, or personal ministry initiatives made by any individual attendees are not representative of Hope Bay Bible Camp.

Please contact us at office@hopebaybiblecamp.com if you have any further questions about our discrimination and harassment prevention policy.

This island community’s trust is very important to us, and while we may not all share the same beliefs, we do accept the responsibility to live in peace, protect all individuals within our care, and respect people’s freedom and individuality as fellow human beings.
